Above the Clouds
Island sighting after many hours of flying.
It took a couple of days but I finally realized the Baynyan of Banyan Drive referred to the trees. So many old Banyan trees.

Crater Rim Trail
Kilauea Iki Trail
Hikers for scale. The cooled 1959 lava lake.
Further along the trail. The surface buckled as it cooled.
A strange mix of rippled-liquid-looking and cracked rocks.
Along the well named Chain of Craters road.
Various lava flows. It's hard to tell the difference between flows from different times -- it mostly looks a lot like this. In geologic time it's all "very recently".
Along Chain of Craters Road
View of the coast.
Biking along the Chain of Craters road. Lava fields for miles.
And that boat! So close.
Hiking over the relatively recently cooled* lava to where the hot lava is visible.
Life .. uh .. finds a way
My attempts at video didn't manage to capture it -- but the brightest parts are visibly oozing.
Hot Lava (closeup)
Hikers for scale. They were much closer than I was willing to go. It was hot like standing near a furnace standing where I was. There were bits of steam venting all around this year, including behind where we were all milling around.
Ocean flow (at night)
It's much more spectacular at night!
So many big banyan trees. Hikers for scale. People were very helpful when it came to being in the shots so you could see how big things were...
View from Onomea Bay Trail
Hawaii Tropical Bontanical Garden
A nice path through plants.
The parrots were loud and opinionated.
